A hundred years later, thanks to the passage of many trade routes through the city, Astrakhan becomes the center of trade of the Golden Horde. Astrakhan Kremlin

This 16th century fortification is recognized as one of the most powerful buildings of that time. The walls, which are about 1.5 meters long, are 10-12 meters thick and 8 meters high. There are 7 towers along the entire perimeter, each of which is an object of architectural value.

Historical buildings are located in the perimeter of the Kremlin:

  • Trinity and Assumption Cathedrals,
  • cathedral bell tower,
  • bishop's tower,
  • different gates with their own names,
  • other historic buildings and several museums.

Entrance to the territory is free; visiting exhibitions will cost from 50 to 160 rubles.

Assumption Cathedral

It is located on the territory of the Kremlin and is one of the largest Orthodox churches in the city. The cathedral took on its modern appearance at the beginning of the 18th century. During the October Revolution, almost all Orthodox relics were removed from the cathedral and melted down. Warehouses, barracks were placed in the building, and meetings of the Bolsheviks were held. The interior of the cathedral was destroyed and restoration began only towards the end of the 90s of the last century. But now it is one of the most significant architectural monuments of the 18th century.

Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin

The unique architectural structure of the late 18th century also suffered the fate of destruction during the Bolshevik battles. Initially, several traditional architectural styles were combined here. The temple was decorated with carved wooden sculptures. Unfortunately, only old pictures testify to the rich decoration. To this day, only the old organ has survived, which was painstakingly repaired and with its help organ concerts are held in the church. Cyril Chapel

The object of the Astrakhan Kremlin is a functioning Orthodox church built in the "Russian Empire" style in the 17th century. After the death of the merchant, the house passed into the possession of relatives, who gave it to the city. After that, the house became communal, and several families lived here.
